Muldoon lived alone in the Irish countryside with only a pet dog for company.
One day, the dog died of old age, so Muldoon went to the parish priest.
“Father Patrick,” he says, “I’m afraid that my dog has died. She was my only companion for 15 years. Will you say Mass for the poor creature?”
The priest replied, “I’m afraid not, my son. We don’t have services for an animal in the Catholic church.”
“But there is a Baptist and a Methodist church down the hill. Maybe they’ll do something for the creature.”
Muldoon said, “I’ll go right away, Father. Do you think $10,000 is enough to donate to them for the service?”
Father Patrick exclaimed, “Sweet Mary Mother of Jesus!…”
“Why didn’t you tell me your dog was Catholic?”
