The Navy, finding they had too many officers, decided to offer an early retirement bonus.
They promised any officer who volunteered a bonus of $1,000 for every inch measured in a straight line between any two points on their body.
The officers were given the freedom to choose the points.
The first officer to accept said, “Measure me from the top of my head to the tip of my toes.”
He was measured at six feet and walked out with $72,000.
The second officer, thinking smarter, asked, “Measure me from the tip of my outstretched hands to my toes.”
He walked out with $96,000.
The third one, a grizzled old Captain, when asked where he wanted to be measured, replied, “From the tip of my penis to my testicles.”
