The other day I let our pool boy go, and she chimed in, “Ah, I see what this is about. You’re terminating his employment because his youth and attractiveness are setting off your internal alarm bells about aging. It’s classic — you’re displacing your own anxieties and dressing them up in this aggressive act because you’re not ready to face the existential dance with time.”
To which I replied, “Sweetheart, I hate to burst your Freudian bubble, but we don’t even own a pool.”
